well... I've mentioned in a previous post that I can well afford to pay the monthly costs. I have a life too and a boyfriend. Shocking, I know. Perhaps I have more of a life than you and spend perhaps more time with my boyfriend than you with your life, but if I wish to maintain the sensitive balance between RL and VR, then perhaps I'd rather not slave away at creating a lvl239854309 char. All of my characters have all elites, have perfect weapons, perfect armors, superior runes, and blah blah blah. I have FoW, 15k armors, perfect weapons, a boyfriend with whom I spend plenty of time with, a family I visit, and a school I have straight A's in. Now if I were to dedicate my life to being able to keep up with the lvl60+++++ lvl cap, perfect armor, perfect weapons, perfect skills... then hmm... I wouldn't have the rest. GW is not one of those games where you have to throw away your RL to succeed in this game, which is what I admired about it. Have you heard of the WoW incidents where people just forgot about their RL and what happened to them? If you can keep the balance between your life and slaving and "grinding" in a game to make perfect characters, then please, be my guest. But without me. What I am saying with my posts is that all that I admired about GW and despised about WoW is being thrown out the window and is being traded in so that a few more people can waste their lives trying to lvl cap etc. I know of somebody who went from lvl 1 to lvl 20 with FoW in 10 hours. I just think it's a pity that Anet believes it needs to sellout to the WoW-way. If I want to play WoW, I will, but I don't and I won't. So I won't play a game like World of Guildcraft (TY Ninja Spectre for that lovely name). Anet had a good thing going and now they're selling out. It's a sad end.

I feel in reflection after sleeping on it I'm kinda disappointed but not surprised.
I think the chapter system failed, not commercially, but simply because it's too much work. A complete new game every 6 months. Something that offers freshness and advancement was simply too big a task to complete.
GW2 so far doesn't interest me, sounds like massive PvE gank squads. I'll wait for more but Age of Conan is looking good

Well i am still surprised for one small issue that most of us never ever bothered to toss this little complaint to devs,or show the idea.
Sure the characters arent moved, the gold isnt moved, thats fine as well.
Titles are moved,ooooook so far.
How many time we switched a game, and went to create our unique casual character name, and we found that some kid as usual went and copied it.
Why the hell not a character name transfer quest?
Its not something difficult, and it will give a reason to some,to just move on to gw2 with something.
Not lvls not gold not skills, but the simple pride of seeing his character name reserved.
Thats coming from someone who has seen already enough people copy him.
Lets hope that the game wont stray from the fun it used to be,for beeing a new lineage 2.

Let's stop the comparisons with WoW for now, we don't know how fast levelling will be and since Mrs.Gray is against tedious grinding I guess it'll be fast enough not to discourage people. I am very sure they know that this aspect of GW is one of the most important.

Oh, hiding in the dark waiting for my next reply? trying to tame me? are we?Now read back all youve been doing is monkeyplay yourself Sir except just trying to cover yourself with an "@ topic"., and yes I have something to offer to. lol watch. Ditto. I'm in the exact situation and has the same stand as Carrie. GW allows you to be successful in real life and relatively successful in the game GW itself. That is the beauty of the balanced GW game.
The thoughts of me being successful in real life.. but in the game, i lose out to players (or may get discriminated because of my low level) because they have more time to grind.. that's the type of game i don't like. Nobody likes losing.

Ariel

Er, the trick is to get your opinions in before they invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into art assets and level design. So far what's been revealed about GW2 involves core design elements, and those need to be gotten right from the very beginning.

On the contrary, it seems you're a little too abstract at this point. For your market-forces approach to work, you need the consumers (i.e. yourself - presumably!) to make informed economic decisions about the product strictly from the perspective of the utility (~fun, in this case) it provides; in key with what they want out of a game, in short.
...So effectively, you're in an impossible position. You can't judge the product on its capitalist merits without distorting the results by your own "impartial" presence and judgment. Unless you're only looking into it as a financial investment opportunity, in which case I'd suggest you're looking at the wrong forum.

Thanks Ariel, I'm glad at least there are a few people that understand why this is rather sad and why I'm not willing to give up my life to succeed in a game.

If Anet dont address this issue I guarantee there will be massive problems. People pretending to be people they are not etc. I think it will lead to people pre-ordering to try and get their names asap.

Character name transfer is FAR from hard to implement. I'd favor a timespan of 3-6 months after GW2's release until the name is free to be taken.
If through a quest, e-mail verification or through generating a unique unlock key is insignificant for now (putting the security issues aside).

This isn't entirely accurate--if they think they can get more sales with a game that seems to be more a traditional MMO, then they're going to do exactly that, no matter the outcry on forums.
It's all about money. Don't fool yourself into believing otherwise.

Hmm... yes... I'm a child... ok... that's why my spelling and grammar are better than most teenagers, including yours. Well, a responsible adult who realizes that 13 bucks a month is a waste of money, would perhaps stop paying it? Who said I spend loads of time in GW anyway? That is just your childish assumption because I have all of that. I get lucky drops that are worth a lot, so all of a sudden that makes me into a person who plays GW every waking hour of the day? It's precisely what I love about GW, is that even with lack of commitment you can get very far in the game, like myself. I don't need to take 2 weeks to level up a character. If you notice, it took a friend of mine 10hours to get FoW and a lvl20 character. Now do that in your 13bucks a month game. Or perhaps in your much supported GW2. If I were to work hours like yours and be on call 24/7, I wouldn't invest any money in monthly fees in a game. If you work that much, perhaps you should scrap gaming altogether and spend also those last 6-8 hours with your wife as well. I'm sure she'd appreciate it.
If you're already paying for a game every month, why don't you play it? And if you want to play a WoW-style game, then play the original. It's sad that Anet seems to think that they have to bring out a game like WoW to succeed in the gaming industry, when they've won so many awards for being so original, etc. GW1 is a terrific game, and other than perhaps the technical aspects of it (like superior graphics), I don't see why they would want to bring out a whole new game other than to satisfy the needs of little children who can't pay the monthly WoW fees. GW was something original, something to be praised, something you didn't have to devote your life to or waste monthly fees on. And this is all being thrown out? Fine. I won't support. Sad if you do. They might as well make a whole new game instead of ruining the good name which is Guild Wars.

I think GW2 will be very time consuming to those who buy it, just like WoW., with level 70, characters I believe? People will probably play in a similar fashion as they do with WoW no eat, no sleep, for a week heard about those deaths? Anet are you trying to kill people like blizzard? :O btw this is just my opinion please dont flame me. I said @topic just an opinion.

I have a concern, which I hope is not overlooked.
In this Hall of Monuments type thing will there be something for Guilds to reserve and/or transfer:
a) Their name
b) Their achievements (ie. gold cape trims)
I'm certain people in well established guilds who want to continue on into GW2 will want to keep the same name. Unfortunately, I'm also fairly certain there will be people who sit-up waiting for the servers to turn on to be the first to register a famous guild name.
Sure some people will make a new guild and thus a new name but I'm pretty confident alot won't.
